J&J'S SWEEP ALL-STAR OPENER FOR 2008, CONTINUE INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS
McKenzie, TN (February 4) - After a number of victories in international sprint car race action, J&J Auto Racing teams kicked off the 2008 was a pair of victories on American soil. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. and Fred Rahmer won the first All Star Circuit of Champions events this past weekend aboard J&J sprint cars to begin the "410" winged sprint car racing season. While Hafetepe and Rahmer were winning in the United States, Ricky Logan kept pace in New Zealand winning his seventh sprint car race of the season.
ALL-STARS
HAFERTEPE STARS
Sam Hafertepe, Jr. picked a great time to win his first career 410 sprint car feature. Hafertepe raced his No. 15H J&J from the sixth starting spot and claimed the 2008 All-Star Circuit of Champions season opener at North Florida Speedway in Lake City, FL.
"The track was really racy for the feature, said Haefertepe, following the triumph. Our car was really hooked up good in the feature.
Hafertepe, who was the second fastest qualifier in the field of 27 cars, took command of the feature on lap 12 of the 25-lap race using traffic to his advantage in getting by early leader Dale Blaney. Once in front, the Sunnyvale, Texas driver was not to be denied and went on to claim the win.
Lance Dewease raced the No. 30c J&J to a fourth place finish while Brock Mayes brought home the No. 11B J&J sixth and Fred Rahmer finished 11th.
RAHMER ROLLS
Pennsylvania sprint car racing legend Fred Rahmer had a historic year last season and he began 2008 with a bang. On Saturday night, he raced the CJB Motorsports No. 51 J&J to victory in the second night of "The Sunshine Showdown at North Florida Speedway in Lake City, FL.
"It's great to get a win down here," admitted Rahmer following the win aboard the Chad and Jen Clemens owned No. 51 J&J. "The competition is so tough. My guys did a great job getting the car right tonight. I knew early in the race that we were going to be pretty good. This is a good momentum builder for us as we head over to Volusia."
Rahmer started on the outside front row and led all 30 laps to pick up the All-Star feature win. Early smoke from excess oil spraying on his headers was the only thing that slowed down the Saldforsville, PA racer.
Lance Dewease brought the No. 30c J&J of Catoctin Motorsports home third and capped a strong opening weekend that included a fourth on Friday night, and earning the fast qualifier award on Saturday night.
Brock Mayes (No. 11B J&J) finished 10th, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (No. 15H J&J) was 11th and Paul McMahan (No. 0 J&J) finished 17th.
INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS
LOGAN BOUNCES
Ricky Logan continued his winning ways at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland, New Zealand, this past weekend. Logan wheeled his No. 10 Lucas Oil-sponsored J&J from the third starting position and took the lead on lap 16 on a heavy "cowboy-style" racetrack. The victory followed his triumph earlier in the week at Robertso
n Holdren International Speedway in Palmerston North.
"Everyone in New Zealand has been just great," admitted the American following the win. "I hope I continue on this winning streak. It's great for my fans and sponsors."
AUSSIE DREAMS
Australian sprint car star Robbie Farr continued his sizzling summer of action by taking the recent King's Challenge at Borderline Speedway in Mt. Gambier, South Australia. Farr, who recently won the World Series Sprintcar Speedweek crown and was victorious in the Outlaws Down Under finale, driving Barry Waldron's No. 7q J&J.
