RAHMER, FARR AND LOGAN CONTINUE WINNING FOR J&J
McKENZIE, TN (March 18) - While weather problems continue to slow the early portion of the 2008 sprint car racing season in the United States, Robbie Farr and Ricky Logan continue to sizzle in dirt track action in Australia and New Zealand. Fred Rahmer was able to beat Mother Nature in Pennsylvania adding to his strong start to 2008 with a victory at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday afternoon and Jerry Hammock led a podium sweep in the Sprint Series of Texas opener at Cowtown Speedway Saturday night.
AUSTRALIA - SPRINT CAR MASTERS
Robbie Farr continued a March Madness of his own in Barry Waldron's No. 7q East Coast Pipeline sponsored J&J with Saturday night's flag-to-flag triumph in the Australian Sprintcar Masters event at Speedway City in South Australia. That win gave him four victories in his last five starts including his victory at the King of Wings race at Perth Motorplex in Western Australia on March 8, and his sweep of the Krikke Boys Shootout at Bunbury City Speedway in Western Australia on March 1 and 2.
NEW ZEALAND
Ricky Logan had a terrific run this season in New Zealand becoming the first international driver to claim the National Sprint Car Championship Series. Logan clinched the championship in his No. 10 Lucas Oil sponsored J&J with a third place finish in the finale at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland, New Zealand. Logan took 11 feature events during his international campaign, which included winning the NZ Grand Prix, NZ Gold Cup and the NZ North Island Champ title race.
"My team had given me a super car to drive race after race as was apparent by our 11 feature wins, but ultimately my whole team had worked for and wanted to win the war of the championship, admitted Logan. "Id like to thank Lucas Oil, J&J, Goodyear, Don Ott, DMI, Pro Shocks, Simpson, HRP Wings, Butler Built Seats, Keizer Wheels, and the Keith Simpson race team for providing me with such an incredible sprint car to run for the New Zealand race season!
LINCOLN SPEEDWAY
Fred Rahmer scored a pair of wins in February on Florida soil kicking off his 2008 campaign and since returning home to Pennsylvania, he's picked up a victory in the opener at Williams Grove Speedway and another this weekend at Lincoln Speedway. Rahmer, the all-time winningest driver at Lincoln, took home his 155th victory on Saturday afternoon driving the Chad and Jen Clemens owned No. 51 Miller Brothers Chevrolet sponsored J&J.
"Everything went our way...starting sixth ended up being an advantage because Chad (Layton) was running a really good pace around the top and I stayed on the bottom and found the rubber which came in," said Rahmer, following the victory. "Getting the lead first isnt always the hot set-up...(Layton) had to stay up there because he was going so good, but when the rubber came in it was Church Over."
SPRINT SERIES OF TEXAS
Jerry Hammock took advantage of the pole position on Saturday night taking the season opener of the Sprint Series of Texas. Hammock piloted the No. 4 Outlaw Driving School sponsored J&J and beat the teammates of Shane Clement and Ron Beechler. Clement drove the No. 2 Polk Construction sponsored J&J to a second place finish and Beechler raced the No. 5 Polk Construction sponsored J&J to a third place finish completing the podium sweep for J&J.
Other strong J&J finishes:
Nick Smith raced to a fifth place finish driving his No. 15s J&J in the opening night of the Spring Nationals at the Devil's Bowl Speedway on Friday. In Saturday's finale, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. raced his No. 15H J&J to a sixth place finish while Natalie Sather raced her No. 94s J&J to a 13th place finish.
